The US transportation network company Uber wants to mobilise against the taxi and rental car reform in Austria with a petition. The new law would be a setback for Austria in several respects. If the new law is passed on 3 July, we will no longer be able to offer services such as UberX, according to a statement by Uber.

Marathon Under Two Hours - World Record Holder Kipchoge Wants to Break Barrier in Vienna

The marathon Olympic champion and world record holder, the Kenyan long-distance runner Eliud Kipchoge, wants to run the marathon in less than 2 hours in Vienna in October, thus cutting his current record of 2:01:39 hours by an impossible 2 minutes.

German Road Toll Discriminates Against Foreigners - ECJ


The German car toll violates EU law. This was decided by the European Court of Justice in a ruling. This levy is discriminatory, since its economic burden lies practically exclusively on the owners and drivers of vehicles registered in other member states. In Austria, the ruling is received with great pleasure, as the country has won the case through its infringement proceedings.

Where Are Austria's Properties Most Expensive?

Particularly sought-after locations can be found in urban areas and tourist centres. The two well-known winter sports resorts of Lech am Arlberg and Kitzbühel, with a price per square metre of 1,806 euros and 1,646 euros respectively for building plots, are at the top of the list. In Vienna, the districts of Döbling with 1,416 euros and Währing with 1,301 euros per square metre were in the lead.

In Vino Veritas: Wine in Ancient Egypt


Wine has always been a drink for gods and people. The noble drink was just like today an important economic good and stimulant and possessed besides a large religious and cultic meaning. Jewish Museum: "Café As. The Survival of Simon Wiesenthal"

Standardised Austria-wide Autumn Holidays as of 2020/21

From the school year 2020/21 there will be uniform autumn holidays in Austria between National Day and All Saints Day - from 27 to 31 October - according to the unanimous decision of the Austrian National Council. There will be no additional school holidays, the teaching time will not be changed. Only the distribution of school-autonomous days will change. Specifically, the days off after Easter and Whitsun will be cancelled. This would ensure relief for pupils, teachers and parents.

Hermann Nitsch - Rooms Made of Colour

The Lipizzaners - What Links Austria and Slovenia Together


The Lipizzan horses are to become cultural heritage. After decades of dispute, Slovenia and Austria submit the Lipizzaner breed to UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage. This was declared by Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl and her Slovenian colleague Miro Cerar after signing a joint declaration in Going in Tyrol. The application should be submitted by March 2020 with the aim of enrolment by 2021.

UNESCO - Austria Awarded Two More World Heritage Sites


In addition to the currently troubled "Historical Centre of Vienna", which is to be preserved as a World Heritage Site, two other Austrian sites will be added to the World Heritage List at the next UNESCO meeting in Baku at the end of June. The "Danubian Limes" (Donaulimes), part of the former border of the Roman Empire, and the "Grossglockner High Alpine Road", the highest surfaced mountain pass road in Austria. Thus Austria will have 12 World Heritage Sites starting in summer 2019.

150 Anniversary of the Vienna State Opera

25 May 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of the opera house on the Ring, and the Vienna State Opera intends to celebrate this with a total of nine premieres. The premiere of Richard Strauss' Woman Without a Shadow (Frau ohne Schatten) will be the formal highlight of the evening, preceded by a ceremony in the morning and followed by a celebration at Herbert von Karajan-Platz the following day.

Asia's Largest Airline to Fly to Vienna


From 18 June 2019, China's largest airline, China Southern Airlines, will fly three times a week from Guangzhou to Vienna via the capital Ürümqi (Wūlǔmùqí) in Xinjiang, China's most northwestern province. Xinjiang has made international headlines in the last two years due to massive human rights violations. China may have interned more than a million Uighurs, Turkic-speaking Muslims, in an attempt to suppress their desire for greater autonomy.

Robbery of 10 Mio Euro in Front of Austrian Airlines Plane in Albania

During a robbery at Tirana International Airport, robbers tried to steal 10 million euros from an Austrian Airlines aircraft. The plane was supposed to bring the money to Vienna and was just loading. In a fire fight with the police, a perpetrator was killed on the run. All robbers had been identified and the police are pursuing the rest of the gang.

New International Bus Terminal to be Built in Vienna - 270 Buses per Day - 5 Mio Passengers per Year


Until 2024, Vienna will finally get a central and modern long-distance bus terminal, which will also become a flagship and showpiece for arriving tourists. 200,000 arrivals and departures of long-distance buses with around five million passengers per year are to be realized at the new terminal in Leopoldstadt directly next to the Dusika Stadium.
