What is Vindobona?

Vindobona is a trusted and indispensable source of news and analysis for the international community of the City of Vienna. Vindobona is specifically designed for the needs of the powerful network of foreign professionals in economics, business, diplomacy, finance, investment, foreign trade, tourism and politics.

What are the benefits of getting a Vindobona membership?

Vindobona is a leading economic, diplomatic, political and cultural information website providing an essential source of news, comment, data and analysis for the international community in Vienna. The amount of content that you can view on Vindobona depends on what type of user you are. See our membership information for details. In summary, unless you are a registered user you may not be permitted to view any content; if you are a registered member (Basic Membership (Free)), you can view an unlimited amount of non-premium articles; if you are a premium member (Premium Membership), you can view all of our content.

How do I access my account to review my settings or to make changes?

Visit the "My Membership" box located in the top center of every page to view your settings, including personal details, email newsletter and alert settings, membership details and order history.

Why am I having problems accessing Vindobona content on my device?

There might be a problem with your browser settings. The site requires that you enable graphics and cookies in your browser set up as they are integral to navigating the site. You should also be sure that Java and JavaScript are enabled. If you have successfully registered and still can not see our content, please log off and sign in again.

Can I access Vindobona on my mobile?

Yes, users who wish to view Vindobona content on the move can access a mobile-friendly version of Vindobona on their mobile devices including but not limited to iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows and BlackBerry.

How do I receive newsletters and instant alerts by email? Where do I manage these?

First, make sure you're logged into your member account. Then, set up the newsletter type and instant alert options of your choice.

What are my newsletter options?

We offer the option to receive or not to receive our newsletter (= top-headlines) by email.

We also offer the option to choose between html and text-only newsletter format.

What are my instant alert options?

Our instant alerts (= news releases) are sent by email as soon as they are published.

You can choose to receive all instant alerts or only selected ones.

If you want to set up your instant alerts, please go to your member account and select either all alerts or specific topics and/or tags you care most about.

How many instant alerts am I entitled to?

You are allowed to sign up to unlimited instant alerts and can follow unlimited topic- and tag alerts.

What is my personal news feed?

Your personal news feed is your personalized timeline, i.e. your personal Vindobona homepage which will be displayed when logged in.

If you've set up alerts for the topics and tags that interest you, then you've also successfully set up your personal news feed.

If you want to check your personal news feed setings, please go to your member account.

How do I delete or unsubscribe from an email/alert?

You can unsubscribe by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the top of an email. Alternatively, go to your member account to edit your preferences.

How do I change the email address my alerts are sent to?

All newsletters and alerts will be sent to the email address associated with your account. If you wish to change your email address, go to manage your member account.

Is my information secure?

At Vindobona we are committed to protecting your security/confidentiality. We know that when you use our website you want to be sure that your name and other personal information will be kept safe and secure, and we therefore take stringent measures to protect your information both online and offline.

For example, we store the personal information you provide on computer systems with limited access, which are located in controlled facilities. In addition, credit card and payment information submitted to us is encrypted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL).

We also follow strict security procedures in the offline storage and disclosure of your information, to prevent unauthorized access.

What is the difference between registration, basic membership (free) and premium membership?

By registering with Vindobona you become a basic member (free) and can enjoy full access to all articles, all news and alert services and tools (No credit card needed). Only premium members get complete access to the site though.

Basic Membership (Free): Enjoy full and unlimited access to all standard articles, email newsletters, email alerts, tools, RSS, networking, etc. All you need to keep up with day-to-day developments and events in Vienna's international environment.

Optionally, receive an email newsletter that briefs you on a range of economic, political, diplomatic and cultural topics. Our email newsletter is a free summary of the main news stories conveniently delivered to your inbox. (You may safely unsubscribe at any time.)

Optionally, receive free customized alerts and get in-the-moment updates on the things that interest you. With our alerts you’ll never miss any important developments. (You may safely unsubscribe at any time.)

Premium Membership: Enjoy full, unlimited and advertisement free access to everything Vindobona has to offer, including all standard and premium articles, entire archive, email newsletters, email alerts, tools, RSS, networking, etc. Enjoy the best in Viennese insight and analysis.

Does Vindobona offer any other membership products or services?

How much do memberships cost?

Our basic membership is free of charge.

The premium membership prices will be made clear to you on our order pages or otherwise during the ordering process and may vary from time to time. You agree to pay the fees at the rates notified to you at the time you take out your membership. You can take out either an annual or monthly (or other frequency we offer) premium membership. Other membership services may only require a one-off payment. You can also take out any other fixed term or payment frequency that we may offer from time to time. We will charge you in Euros, United States Dollars, British Pounds Sterling, Hong Kong dollars, Singapore dollars, Australian dollars, Swiss Francs or Japanese Yen depending on your choice when checking out with our payment gateway provider Worldpay. Eligibility for any discounts is ascertained at the time you become a member and cannot be changed during the term of your membership.

How long do your published premium membership prices remain valid?

We reserve the right to vary our prices from time to time. We will always notify our premium members in advance of any increase in the price of your premium membership and offer you an opportunity to cancel it if you do not wish to pay the new price.

Are there any delivery costs?

We are 100% online only. We do not charge any additional delivery costs. Your internet services provider or telecommunications operator may charge you fees for the provision of their services, and if you use any of our mobile services then your network operator may charge you for data or messaging services.

What are the payment arrangements?

If you choose to purchase a premium membership you can pay online by credit card (currently we accept Visa, Mastercard and Amex) via our secure payment pages.

If you wish to order online, but don't want to use your credit card on the internet, you can choose any of following alternative payment options:

  • Pay offline by credit card.
  • Pay offline by telegraphic or wire transfer.

When does my premium membership become effective?

The Vindobona online checkout will process your premium membership automatically and promptly (usually immediately) but does not guarantee that your membership will be activated by any specified time. Your premium membership will only become effective after we have successfully verified your payment details and your email address, at which point we will provide you with access to your membership.

What is your refund policy? Am I allowed to cancel once I have subscribed?

Once we have started to provide any part of your premium membership to you, you do not have any right to cancel your premium membership until the end of your premium membership period. This means that you are not entitled to a refund once we have started to provide any part of your premium membership. If you cancel before we start to provide you with access to any part of your premium membership, you are entitled to receive a full refund, however you should be aware it is unlikely that there will be generally be a long gap between you subscribing and receiving access.

What is the minimum duration of the premium membership term? How long must I sign-up for?

If you chose to pay monthly, your premium membership will continue until you inform us that you no longer wish to receive it, in which case you will stop paying the monthly fees. If you chose to pay annually, we will send you an email letting you know when your annual premium membership is close to ending (unless you have already told us that you wish to cancel your premium membership). Unless you then notify us before the end of your annual premium membership period that you no longer wish to receive it, your annual premium membership will renew for another year.

How do I cancel?

Although you may notify us of your intention to cancel at any time, such notice will only take effect at the end of your then current premium membership period. You may notify us of your wish to cancel your premium membership by contacting our customer services team via our "Contact Us" page.

Are there any terms and conditions applicable to my use of Vindobona? What do they say?

Yes, we recommend that you read the Terms & Conditions before you use, register with or subscribe to Vindobona, because they form a legally binding agreement between you and Vindobona. For your convenience we have published a very brief summary of them below, but this is not a substitute for reading the Terms & Conditions themselves which are in no way varied or superseded by this summary.

Please do not use Vindobona if you do not agree to the Terms & Conditions which we may change from time to time.

When using our content or posting content you must comply with our Copyright Policy. We do not permit any use of our content that is not expressly permitted by that policy and, in particular, we do not allow registered users or members to share passwords.

We will use any information we receive from you in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the content of any third party websites that we may provide links to, even if they are our advertisers or sponsors. We do not make many promises as to how we will operate Vindobona and we accept no financial responsibility to you for your use of Vindobona unless you are a member. If you are a member we do accept responsibility for any direct loss you incur by using Vindobona, subject to a limit equal to the price you paid for your premium membership. Our terms & conditions are subject to Austrian law.
