The 43rd Saalfelden Jazz Festival Gathers International Jazz Lovers and Virtuosos

The small town of Saalfelden in Salzburger Land will once again be transformed into a vibrant meeting place for the international jazz scene from August 17 to 20, 2023. Music makers, players, connoisseurs, and lovers of improvised music from all over the world will flock to the 43rd Saalfelden Jazz Festival, which will feature musical highlights and exciting discoveries for four days. Six official stages in the town, as well as the "Mountain Tracks" in the great outdoors, offer a program that will delight every music lover.

Winning Ensembles of the 8th International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition Chosen

For the 8th time, the International Joseph Haydn Chamber Music Competition, where young ensembles from all over the world compete, selected the best up-and-coming string quartets and piano trios. The two first prizes went to Trio Bohémo and Trio Pantoum, while the Chaos String Quartet and Trio Incendio were each runner-ups.

Olga Neuwirth Receives Wolf Prize 2021

The Austrian composer Olga Neuwirth has received the Wolf Prize 2021 in Music. The composer can now compare herself with other laureates of the prize such as Paul McCartney, Placido Domingo, and Stevie Wonder. Andrea Mayer, Austria's State Secretary for the Arts and Culture, congratulates Neuwirth on the prize and on "being able to successfully assert herself in the male-dominated world of music."

New Year's Concert Will Take Place Without Live Audience

This year's New Year's Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra will take place without audience. Due to current Covid-19 measures and the ongoing third lockdown in Austria, the organizers have come up with a solution that will make it possible to at least pay tribute to the orchestra by generating and streaming applause from the listeners at home to the Golden Hall in Vienna.

A Competitive Classical Summer Stage for the World's Capital of Opera

The Danube Arena, a huge summer stage for classical concerts, opera and operetta, is reportedly to be built on the banks of the Danube in the middle of Vienna.
