German Wings Crash: No Austrians or Transit Passengers to Vienna Were Aboard
It is believed that no Austrians or direct transit passengers to Vienna were aboard the crashed Germanwings plane. "None of the passengers from Düsseldorf held connecting flights to Vienna, so we believe this tragedy has not affected any Austrians. However, we do not as yet have a passenger list of those who were on the flight," Lufthansa said.

Update: Germanwings Crash - Two Iranian Journalists on Transit to Vienna among Victims
It has been confirmed that two transit passengers to Vienna were aboard the crashed Germanwings plane Flight 9525. Reuters reports that the two Iranian dead are sports journalists who were travelling to watch their national team play Chile in Sankt Pölten tomorrow. The two men had earlier travelled to Barcelona to cover a match between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

German Airliner with 150 People Crashes in Southern France
An Airbus A320 airliner of German low-cost airline Germanwings crashed in the French Alps near Digne carrying 144 passengers and six crew members. "All 150 feared dead" says Fancois Hollande. It is unclear whether Austrian passengers were on board.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has disappeared from the public eye since March 5th, is said to suffer from back problems, according to information from the "Kurier". He is now supposed to be treated by a Viennese orthopedic surgeon.

Vienna Celebrates 150 Years of the Ringstrasse
Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph officially opened Vienna's Ringstrasse on May 1, 1865. The boulevard, which is 5.3 kilometers long and 56 meters wide, was an elegant promenade for the upper classes. This year Vienna is celebrating its 150th birthday with numerous events and exhibitions. The "most beautiful boulevard in the world" not only has a wealth of sights, it also has large parks and important monuments.

Austria: Number of Naturalisations Increased by 3.7% in 2014
7.693 people acquired Austrian citizenship in 2014 (including 123 persons resident abroad). Compared to 2013, the number of naturalisations increased by 3.7%. Top former nationalities include Bosnia-Herzegovina (1 120), Turkey (885), followed by Serbia (671), the Russian Federation (433) and the Kosovo (381).

Austrian Population Rises Above 8.5 Million
Austria's population increases to 8.58 million at the beginning of 2015, according to preliminary results of Statistics Austria. In absolute terms, the population grew by almost 72 000 last year. Hence, population growth was significantly higher than in the previous year (2013: +56 000). More than half of the population growth was concentrated in the Eastern part of Austria (55.9%), where Vienna accounted for a large share of the total increase (38.9%).

Spar to Relaunch "Huma” Shopping Park in Vienna-Simmering
The starting signal for building work to turn the HUMA Shopping Center into probably the most modern shopping center in the capital has already been given in December 2014. A shopping center with more than 90 shops, restaurants, catering outlets and services, 2000 free parking spaces and 800 jobs is being built at a traditional location in Vienna-Simmering on a gross leasable area of 50,000 square meters.

World Leaders Met in Vienna to Adopt 10 Year Action-Plan for Landlocked Developing Countries
The United Nations General Assembly adopted a 10 year action-plan aimed at accelerating sustainable development in the world’s 32 landlocked developing countries (LLDCs). The United Nations Celebrate 35 Years in Vienna
