Agressive Southern Chinese Airline Launches Shenzhen-Vienna Service
The South Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines is pushing ahead with its expansion into Europe by adding Vienna - Shenzhen as the next non-stop route after Zurich at the end of August. The new twice-weekly flights will take off on October 20th, connecting Vienna with Shenzhen on Thursdays and Saturdays using the airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (see picture).
Enlargement Perspectives for the Western Balkans - The Role of Parliaments
During a panel discussion in the Austrian Parliament, the perspective of enlargement for the Western Balkans and, in this context, the role of parliaments were discussed. The future of the six candidate countries in the Western Balkans is within the EU. They need an honest perspective for this common future with the EU Member States. The EU must contribute to ensuring the stability of the democracies in these countries. The former President of the German Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, attended the discussion.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin met Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen during a stopover in Vienna. Bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East were discussed.
Citizens' Initiative "Europa.cafe" Receives the Europe State Award 2018
The European State Prize of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs honours the voluntary commitment of citizens and organisations to promote European awareness and understanding. The winning project in 2018 was the nationwide citizens' initiative "Europa.cafe", a successful example of how to creatively make the European Union tangible for the individual citizen on the one hand and how committed citizens can reach with dedication and conviction on the other.
Vienna International School Turned 40 Years Old
Exactly forty years ago the VIS Vienna International School was set up to provide a truly international education for the children in the Viennese international community especially those associated with the United Nations. The school was therefore located very close to the VIC Vienna International Centre. Since then it has established itself as a school of international understanding and cosmopolitanism.
International Day of the Girl: Austria Center Vienna Illuminated in Pink
The Austria Center Vienna and the Austrian Presidency of the Council sent a signal on the International Day of the Girl and illuminated the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) pink in the evening. At the same time, inside the Center with the conference "Gender Equality and YOU. Young Voices. Joint Initiative" and the informal meeting of the EU Ministers for Gender Equality, important gender equality events took place within the framework of the EU Council Presidency.
