To date, a total of 58 people have died in Vienna from coronavirus infection. That is 5 more deaths than the day before.

In the meantime, 292 people in Vienna have recovered from the virus.

The Regional Medical Directorate of Vienna and the Medical Crisis Committee of the City of Vienna provide regular information on the current case numbers and other key figures on the Covid 19 virus.

As of Thursday, 2 April 2020, 8.00 a.m., 1,580 cases have been confirmed in Vienna. The number of deaths related to the virus is 31, and two men (79 and 90 years old) died in hospital yesterday.

86 persons have recovered and recovered. Among the convalescents is a resident (92) of a nursing home. The health hotline 1450 received 2,046 calls.

Mon. March 30, 2020, 8:39pm: Unusual Repatriation of 300 Germans from Tyrolean Ski Resorts

In an unusual repatriation operation, the German Embassy in Vienna has enabled 300 Germans to return home from Tyrolean quarantine areas. Additionally, Tyrol's Governor Günther Platter confirms that about 3,000 seasonal workers and tourists from the affected areas will depart until the weekend.

Nehammer warned the population that they did not sufficiently recognize the seriousness of the situation and would not sufficiently adhere to the guidelines. So far, there have been 10,426 charges throughout Austria in connection with non-compliance with the corona regulations.

The coronavirus poses a massive challenge for the economy. The federal government presened the details of the 38 billion aid package as follows: 1) short-time work, 2) hardship fund for SMEs, 3) crisis fund of 15 billion euros and 4) credit guarantees and tax deferrals.

Fri. March 20, 2020, 14:30: Coronavirus measures upheld until Easter Monday

The initial restrictions shall be extended by three weeks. As Chancellor Kurz said at a press conference, the measures are to apply until Easter Monday, April 13, for the time being.

According to Kurz, the fight against the coronavirus is a marathon, which again called for perseverance.

The province of Tyrol with 1.8 million inhabitants has issued a quarantine regulation.

All 279 Tyrolean communities are now under quarantine and may "only be left when it is necessary to cover basic needs, to provide services of basic existence or to get to work".

Minister of the Interior Nehammer informed today that Austria will reintroduce border controls, including health checks, to Germany starting tomorrow, Thursday. All "smaller" border crossings will be closed completely, similar to the strategy already in operation at the borders with Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The number of confirmed infections  in Austria has increased to 1,646 cases. (This marks an increase of 134 cases since yesterday.)

A seventh suspected Covid death, a 48-year-old woman in Vienna, has not yet been confirmed.

A death with suspected corona virus in an apartment building in Bad Kleinkirchheim was reported from Carinthia. An Italian woman had suddenly suffered from shortness of breath around midnight and died while still in the apartment despite resuscitation by rescue workers. In the meantime, the all-clear could be given in this case as well.

The two 24-year-old infected persons are a couple from the Bergamo area who had travelled to Innsbruck by car on 21 February 2020. The 24-year-old woman lives in Tyrol and works in a hotel as a receptionist. The two Italians were isolated in the Innsbruck clinic and are currently under observation. All persons concerned are behaving extremely cooperatively. On the part of the state of Tyrol, information on places where the two infected persons have been found will be published today, following precise surveys.

Since December 2019, the staff has been collecting all essential information on the corona virus around the clock in order to coordinate the necessary measures. Since January 2020, situation pictures have also been continuously compiled across all departments.

Wed. 16:54 Suspected case of coronavirus: All-clear at the VIC (UNO-City)

In the late afternoon the all-clear was given. The patient tested negative for the virus. As a precautionary measure, four more employees were sent home.

The Vienna International Centre (VIC) Medical Service has provided the following update.

"The suspected case involving a UN staff member was evaluated in an Austrian hospital today and diagnosed as not being a COVID-19 case. While this case is now considered closed, the VIC Medical Service and the VIC-Based Organizations will continue to closely monitor the situation."
