Leena Srivastava Appointed IIASA Deputy Director General for Science

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) announces that Dr. Leena Srivastava, who has held the position of IIASA Distinguished Visiting Fellow since May, will be promoted to the position of IIASA Deputy Director General for Science as of November 15, 2019.

The Vice Chancellor of the TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi, India, Leena Srivastava will join the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) as the Deputy Director General for Science on 15 November 2019.

Dr. Srivastava accepted the position at IIASA, thereby ensuring the continuity of IIASA's outstanding interdisciplinary research on globally relevant topics.

Through her experience in excellent research and in furthering sutainability development and climate change science, her appointment is an enrichment of IIASA's leading team.

Srivastava brings extensive experience to the new position that will provide interdisciplinary scientific leadership to the institute and ensure that IIASA research stays at the forefront of scientific endeavor.

She has been Vice Chancellor of the TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi – an inter-disciplinary higher education institution focused on sustainable development – since 2012.

Prior to this, she worked for over three decades on research in the areas of energy, environment, and climate change policies at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), including nearly nine years as Executive Director.

About Dr. Leena Srivastava

Leena Srivastava is the Vice Chancellor of the TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi – a uniquely inter-disciplinary higher education institution, focused on sustainable development.

She has also had a long stint of over three decades at The Energy and Resources Institute - TERI, from where she left as Executive Director. She has a Masters in Economics from the University of Hyderabad and a Ph.D in Energy Economics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India.

She is an Independent and Non-Executive Director on the Boards of Bharti Infratel Ltd. and Shree Cement Ltd. and Board Member of the Meridian Institute and Stockholm Resilience Centre. She is a Co-Chair, Future Earth Advisory Committee. Future Earth: Research for Global Sustainability, Member, Ad Hoc Informal Multi-stakeholder Technical Group of Advisors on Sustainable Development Goal 7, United Nations, the Council of Advisors for Fraunhofer India; Sustainable Development Advisory Board, Caterpillar Inc. USA; Senior Advisory Group (SAG), Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), WBCSD.

At a think tank/science level, she is a member of the Carbon Trust Advisory Panel, Asian Development Bank President's Advisory Group on Climate Change and Sustainable Development, the Research Advisory Committee, WWF-India, the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, Germany.
