The display of solidarity with Israel on top of the Federal Chancelry over the recent tensions in the Gaza Strip sparked a small diplomatic crisis between Austria and Iran.

On Friday May 14th, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz took to Twitter to announced that the building of the Federal Chancelry of Austria (Ballhausplatz, 1st district) would fly a flag of the State of Israel to display solidarity.
Tensions between Gaza and Israel have recently flared following a decision by Israel’s High Court regarding evicting Palestinian residents from Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem.
Protests across East Jerusalem and Gaza, followed by rocket fire exchange between Hamas in the Gaza Strip and Israel have resulted in an escalation of violence with rising death tolls. …
