European Research Council Provides Grants for 12 Austrian Researchers
The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded 12 fellowships for cutting-edge research in Austria. In total the Council is giving out over 200 grants to leading researcher across Europe with a total volume of more than EUR 500 million. The research projects span across various different sectors and sciences.

Funding for Erasmus Program Is Increased
One of the European Union's most successful programs, the Erasmus+, will once again receive an increase of funding. In 2019 alone, the program supported almost 1 million learning stays abroad and provided funding for more than 100,000 organizations and about 25,000 projects.

EU Increases Funding for Austrian-Lead Covid-19 Research Projects
Through the Horizon 2020 research program, the EU has increased its funding for 23 Covid-19 related research projects. Two of the funded projects are lead by Austrian companies and four more rely on important Austrian partners to further their research efforts.

European Capital of Innovation Award: Vienna Recognized as Runner-up
The Belgium city of Leuven was awarded the European Capital of Innovation Award 2020. Vienna, which was still in the race up until the final round, was recognized as runner-up city together with Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Espoo (Finland), Helsingborg (Sweden), and Valencia (Spain).
