Moderate Decline in One-Day Car Registrations

One-day registrations of passenger cars in the first half of 2011: -0.7%; 5.1% of new passenger cars were deregistered within one day.

According to Statistics Austria, a total of 9,524 passenger cars was registered and deregistered within 24 hours from January to June 2011; compared to the same period in 2010 (9,592 registrations) this represents a decrease of 0.7%. In the first six months of 2011, the total number of new registered passenger cars amounted to 187,593 (+10.6%). The share of one-day registrations related to all new car registrations accounted for 5.1%. In the first half years of 2010 and 2009, the shares amounted to 5.7% and 3.5%, respectively. In February (+16.1%), March (+13.5%) and April 2011 (+10.8%) double-digit increases were observed; decreases were reported for the months January (-16.5%), May (-21.1%) and June 2011 (-2.1%).

The number of short-term registrations of passenger cars up to seven days increased by 0.4%; that of registrations up to 30 days increased as well (+4.0%). Positive developments were also recorded for short-term registrations up to 60 and 90 days, respectively (+14.3% and +17.1%).
