S&P: Austrian Banks Still Weakly Capitalized

The U.S. rating agency S&P regards Austrian banks to record high capital shortfalls.

Austria´s large banks have to fulfill the equity target set by EBA (European Banking Authority) until June. The tier-1 capital quota must reach 9.0%. As VBAG lost its status as systemic bank after the VBI sale to the Russian Sberbank and Bank Austria is a subsidiary of the Italian UniCredit, only RZB (Raiffeisen Zentralbank) and Erste Group have to fulfill the criteria.
