Austrian banks face new difficulties. The European Banking Authorities does not approve participation capital by the Austrian state as Tier-1 Equity Capital.

The private participation capital, which was granted to Austrian banks in 2008/09 in order to strengthen the domestic´s banks capital base, is not accepted as equity by EBA. Although Austria tried to persuade EBA to accredit the private participation capital, EBA rejected to do so. EBA`s board disapproved the request by a 13:12 vote.
