At around 08:00 this morning, an accident occurred at the corn starch mill in Aschach an der Donau as a result of an operator error which triggered a chemical reaction and the release of chlorine gas. This caused 37 people on the site to experience respiratory problems.

Agrana opened a new facility at its corn starch mill in Aschach an der Donau in Upper Austria. Following the investment of around EUR 80 million, AGRANA has increased its processing capacity at the plant by a third to 540,000 tonnes of corn per year. The additional capacity has also created 25 new jobs in the region.

The Group's revenue increased slightly to EUR 684.2 million in the first quarter ended 31 May 2017, up 2.8% from the first three months of the prior year. The sugar, starch and fruit group AGRANA has consolidated its presence in Asia through the acquisition of a fruit processing plant from the Indian fruit processor SAIKRUPA Fruit Processing Pvt. Ltd. Following the establishment of AGRANA Fruit India Private Ltd. last September and the acquisition of facility from SAIKRUPA, AGRANA has now expanded its production activities in Asia to a third territory, in addition to China and South Korea, namely the Indian subcontinent. As the global leader in fruit preparations, AGRANA now maintains 26 production sites in 20 countries.

In the first six months of 2016|17 (1 March to 31 August 2016), AGRANA's operating profit (EBIT) rose by 31.6% to EUR 90.4 million (H1 prior year: EUR 68.7 million). At EUR 1,320.3 million, Group revenue was also up 4.5 % on the previous year (EUR 1,263.5 million) in first half of 2016|17.
