The project of the alpine tunnel between Austria and Italy, which is the core of a trans-European axis, faces new problems. The Italian government plans to tender the license for the highway Europe-wide.

The governor of the Italian province of South-Tyrol, Luis Durnwalder, criticized this intention. Durnwalder wants to extend the licence for the Brennerautobahngesellschaft (Brenner highway company) in return for the cross-financing: “The tender is not in line with South-Tyrol´s plans”. According to the Italian plans, the proceeds would be used for the construction.
