Austrian Airlines are fearing a massive drop in sales and even see the tax as a threat to their existence.

The German Lufthansa subsidiary, Austrian Airlines (AUA), is furious because of the introduction of a tax on airline tickets. Starting January 2011, an 8 euro tax will be applied on European flights; on longer flights the tax will be of up to 40 euro. The new tax will bring up to 60 million euro a year, and later on up to 90 million.
