Upswing in Business Location Projects

The national investment promotion agency registered a strong increase in the number of companies investing in Austria. The trend is expected to continue in 2011.

Following a year characterized by a cyclically-related decline, ABA-Invest once again reported a positive development of international investments. The Austrian market has become an interesting target for many companies from Eastern Europe. For 2011, the agency expects continuing moderate growth in the total amount of investments made by international companies in Austria.

In the current year, the agency has already provided services to 67 companies which invested a total amount of € 112.9m. 882 new jobs have been created. Last year, ABA recovered from the crisis in the years 2008 and 2009. In cooperation with the regional investment promotion agencies, ABA provided professional consulting services to 198 international companies setting up business operations in Austria (up 25% from 2009), which invested a total of € 221.1m (+166%) and created 1,383 new jobs (+43%).

Germany, which is traditionally the most important investor nation in Austria, maintained its leading position in 2010, accounting for 42% of all investment projects. The interest in Austria as a business location displayed by investors from Central and Eastern Europe and South East Europe has continued uninterruptedly for years. 45 companies from the CEE and SEE region set up business operations in Austria in 2010, up from 34 projects in the previous year. Russia was the top investor, accounting for 13 investment projects, followed by 11 Hungarian and 8 Czech companies
