Surplus of Timber in Austria
More timber grows in Austria's forests wood than is harvested. The Chamber of Agriculture calls for looser terms of use.

About 48% of the Austrian territory is covered with forests. There is an annual regrowth of 30 million cubic meters of timber, but only 20 to 22 million cubic meters are harvested yearly. Logging could therefore be increased by about 50% with no lasting damage. The total stock is estimated at around 1.1bn cubic meters.
