Total revenue of the sector grew by only 1.9% in 2010. The market is ruled by retail chains which own 98% of total selling space.

The Austrian food trade sector is stagnating. According to a recent study conducted by the consulting company RegioPlan, total revenue amounted to € 17.3bn in the year 2010. Compared to 2009, it increased by only 1.9% nominally which corresponds to the inflation rate.
