Slovak Industrial Production Grows Significantly

Industrial production index (IPI) increased by 8,1 % in October 2012, compared with October 2011. The development was affected by a rise in manufacturing by 8,7 %.

The increase of the total industrial production was affected most considerably by an increase in manufacture of transport equipment by 31,5 %, manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. by 3,6 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 2,8 %, manufacture of electrical equipment by 5,2 %, manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 3,2 %. The volume of production decreased mostly in other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 7,9 %, manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 1,8 %.

In terms of the main industrial groupings, production of investment goods increased by 20,1 %, production related to energy by 4,7 %, production of durable consumer goods by 2,2 %. Production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 2,3 % and production of intermediate goods by 0,3 %.

After seasonality adjustment, industrial production decreased by 3,9 % in October compared with September.

Over the first ten months, IPI increased, on average, by 12,2 %, year-on-year, of which in manufacturing by 14,5 %. Production decreased in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 0,1 %, in mining and quarrying by 6,6 %.

The total increase of industrial production was affected mostly by a growth in manufacture of transport equipment by 50,8 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 5,9 %, manufacture of textiles, apparel, leather and related products by 7,1 %, manufacture of electrical equipment by 8,6 % and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 2,5 %. Production decreased mostly in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 12,5 % and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 11,3 %.

In terms of the main industrial groupings, production of investment goods increased by 33,3 %, production of intermediate goods by 2,1 % and production of non-durable goods equally by 1,8 %. Production related to energy decreased by 3,5 % and production of durable consumer goods by 0,1 %.
