“Property Tax Cannot Finance Wage Tax Cut”

Bernhard Felderer, head of the Austrian public debt committee, stresses that the Austrian government must reduce the public debt level as soon as possible.

According to Felderer, the Austrian government has to focus on austerity measures before reducing the wage tax. Felderer thinks that a notable wage tax cut would cost at least € 6.0bn. This decrease in public revenues cannot be offset by property taxes, Felderer says. In the best case, property taxes may bring public revenues of € 2.5bn.
