Leitl Vehemently Asks the Government for Structural Reforms

In his "Report on the Situation of the Austrian Economy" before the Economic Parliament, the President of the Austrian Economic Chamber, Christoph Leitl, said that our country will reach stable development with an economic growth of 2%, falling unemployment and rising consumer spending in the coming years.

Austria, said Leitl, will however grow slower than the OECD average; therefore, there is no reason for jubilation. Brazil, India and China, in contrast will develop a tremendous momentum in the global competition. Austria must now do everything to maintain its position in the world trade.

Leitl says: "We are facing major challenges to position Austria strategically and to maintain global competitiveness. We urgently need to strengthen our know-how, we must invest in education and innovation as the basis of our prosperity. This is why I also welcome the planned increase in research bonuses". For this reason, the current debate in education policy worries him, because no progress is being made.

Leitch continues, "We demand therefore the government that it also implements reforms. I do not understand why the Chancellor wants to know no more about a management reform. The call for renewal is present”.

The WK President also demanded maintaining the apprentice premium and warned against higher energy taxes or foundation taxes. Taxation of property should not be done, nor the side costs of labor increased either
