The Austrian Minister of Finance plans to incorporate the publicly held stakes in ÖBB, Asfinag and Verbund into ÖIAG. The coalition partner SPÖ and Reinhold Mitterlehner oppose to this attempt.

In contrast to the coalition partner SPÖ, Finance Minister Fekter does not want to dissolve the Austrian Industrial Holding ÖIAG. „As long as I am in charge of the Minister of Finance, there will be no liquidation of ÖIAG.“ Fekter emphasizes.

„I think, ÖIAG should be upgraded.“ Fekter says. Austrian Railways, the highway funding company Asfinag and the energy company Verbund should be shifted to the Holding. Fekter wants a „common strategy for all interests.“ In the past, Fekter called for the privatization of the publicly held companies.

Fekter regrets that SPÖ is against further privatizations. Chancellor Werner Faymann (SPÖ) suggested to give the interests in OMV, Telekom Austria and Post to the corresponding Ministries. However, ÖVP opposes this plan massively. Only the Minister of Economics Reinhold Mitterlehner considered that a liquidation of ÖIAG would be the best option. For Fekter, the return to the public shareholdings to the Ministries would be disastrous.

Fekter stressed that ÖIAG´s management would be „highly professional“. For her, ÖIAG has a „privatization task“.

Mitterlehner reaffirms that keeping ÖIAG with less costs would be conceivable. Integrating ÖBB, Asfinag or Verbund into ÖIAG would bring no benefits at all, Mitterlehner says.
