The domestic energy industry has numerous plans to expand capacity. However, political will is containing them.

The energy producers are increasing the pressure on the Federal Government and the provinces in order to obtain approval for new projects. By 2020 the energy industry wants to create about seven billion kilowatt hours of new generating capacity. The number of projects has already grown to 80. Of these, 60 are in the area of hydropower.
