Austrian Labor Market: Most Jobs in SME

The quantitatively most important employer in Austria are still small and medium sized enterprises. Above all, handicraft enterprises are a major pillar for the domestic labor market.

According to the Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKO), handicraft enterprises employed 648,019 persons in 2011. The commercial sector ranks second with 467,870 employees, followed by the industrial sector with 422,462 employees. Over the last ten years, handicraft enterprises created about 106,000 jobs, WKO says.
