In 2010, subsidies amounting to 6.5% of the Austrian GDP were distributed. The EU-average is only the half.

According to the EU statistics agency Eurostat, the Austrian government allocated subsidies totaling € 18bn. This is 6.5% of the Austrian GDP. No other European country records such a high level. The European average amounts to 3.0%. Germany´s subsidy quota reached 3.6%, Sweden only has a 1.8% quota.
