Bastille Day at the French Embassy and a Distinguished Award in Vienna
In July, Franco-Austrian relations are traditionally marked by close friendship, European values, and festive occasions. This year, two outstanding events in Vienna and Salzburg provided cause for celebration: the ceremonial presentation of France’s highest honor to a leading Austrian politician, as well as the glamorous celebrations marking France’s National Day (Bastille Day) on July 14 in the Austrian capital.

On 14 July, France celebrates National Day. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, as well as the Federation Festival (Fête de la Fédération) in 1790, which marked the beginning of the French Revolution after the popular uprising that year.
