On Tuesday, the Russian Finance Ministry announced that the country has paid off a $ 2bn debt remaining from the Soviet era to Serbia and Slovakia.

The debts in the amount of $ 1.7bn to Slovakia and $ 288.8m to Serbia started when Russia assumed responsibility for Soviet obligations under trade and economic cooperation with Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, the ministry said in a press release.
