The Austrian Railways (ÖBB) has to reduce costs by € 1.6bn until 2016. The major part is based on cost cuts in infrastructure projects.

ÖBB has to make contributions to the austerity package. Within the coming five years, costs have to be reduced by € 1.6bn. A delay and a cost-cut in infrastructure projects bring € 920m. Another € 525m are expected through a stop of early retirements.
The major projects of Koralm tunnel, Semmering tunnel and Brenner tunnel have to be downsized.
