The German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel met her Austrian counterpart Werner Faymann and Vice Chancellor Michael Spindelegger in Vienna. It was Merkel´s first state visit in Austria since 2006.

At the meeting with Faymann, Merkel explained that she rejects the idea of breaking up the Eurozone. Before, the German industrialist Hans-Olaf Henkel and the economist Dirk Meyer promoted the idea of a “Northern Euro”. The Southern Eurozone should get an own currency, Henkel and Meyer said.
