Meinl: Big Plans in Russia

The Austrian coffee roaster regards the CEE region as future market. Also China and Turkey are targeted. Last year, group revenues rose by 16% to € 125m.

The traditional coffee roasting company aims for further growth. Especially Russia is seen as future market, which is due to its “size and demography”. Also the average consumption of coffee is substantially lower than in other countries, Marcel Löffler, CEO of Julius Meinl Industrieholding. In Austria, consumption reached 8 kilograms per person and year. By contrast, the average consumption in Russia is 1.5 kilograms.

Julius Meinl operates in the Russian market since 2007. Last year, revenues reached € 8.0m, which is an increase by 35% against 2010. In meantime, Russia is the third-largest market of the group. In Austria, Meinl achieved revenues of € 60m (+48%). In the CEE region, Meinl´s average revenue growth was 14%.

Julius Meinl Industrieholding is specialized in the production and distribution of coffee, tea and jam products. For the group, the coffee business is the core segment. Meinl´s main customer is the catering industry. Meinl has 35,000 catering customers worldwide and is represented in 70 countries.

Last year, the group recorded a rise in revenues by 16% to € 125m. EBITDA was up by 20% to € 17m. Prices will not be raised for the time being. „We are observing the market.“ a spokesperson commented.
