Austria will in all probability not be granted an extension of the deadline for the winding down of Hypo Alpe Adria. This was announced by EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia

“If we postpone some of the decisions then the costs for our taxpayers will become bigger,” Almunia argues. “Usually more time is not a the right thing to solve the problem,” he adds on the question if more time could be granted as Austrian experts see a need in it.
