According to calculations by Statistics Austria, Austrian building construction and civil engineering companies produced a construction output value of € 8.9bn in the reporting period from January until August 2011; this corresponds to an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous year. Breaking production down into construction sectors, opposing trends can be observed (construction of buildings +7.3%; civil engineering -5.9%). Data from construction auxiliary trades is not taken into account.

At the end of August 2011, Austrian construction companies (not including construction auxiliary trades) had an order book totaling about € 6.8bn (+6.9% y. o. y.), according to calculations by Statistics Austria.

In civil engineering – which constitutes 55.7% or € 3.8bn of the overall volume of outstanding orders – orders increased by 23.8% compared to the previous year. In construction of buildings, orders decreased by 8.8% (€ 3.0bn in absolute terms or 43.9%) in comparison to 2010, mainly caused by restructuring of enterprises linked with changes of the main activity from construction of buildings to civil engineering.
