As of May 1, 2011 the German and Austrian labor markets open for the new EU citizens. Romania and Bulgaria will follow suit in 2013.

The last transition period for opening up the labor markets to the countries that joined the EU in 2004 has been completed. As of early May, Poles, Czechs, Hungarians, Slovaks, Slovenes, and Balts can make full use of the freedom of movement for workers.
