Although the budget deficit is lower than expected, but the official national debt could increase considerably due to the ÖBB.

Last year, the Austrian Federal Government planned a budget deficit of 4.7%. It has ultimately become 4.1%. Although this figure is clearly above the Maastricht ceiling of 3.0%, the Minister of Finance, Josef Pröll, shows himself pleased.
