Next year, the mandates of the board of directors are expiring. Ewald Nowotny is said to be re-elected in his current position.

However, it seems that the Austrian governing parties SPÖ and ÖVP have already taken decision on Nowotny´s re-election. The parties are said to have agreed on a second term of Nowotny, who acts as governor of OeNB since 2008. The former ECB Council Member Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell was said to be the alternative candidate.
