Chancellor and Leader of the Social Democrats Werner Faymann is in favor of lower taxes on wages. His model includes reliefs of up to € 1,011 annually. However, coalition partner, the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) rejects the plans.

Less than two weeks before the elections for the National Assembley, the Social Democrats presented their plans for reform for taxation on wages. The model schedules a change to five level of progressions where the base rate for taxes on wages should be lowered to 25 percent from currently 36.5 percent. The new tax is supposed to be applied for wages from € 11,000 to € 16,000…
