Unity Under the Banner of the “Evening Star”: Romania and Moldova Honor Mihai Eminescu in Vienna

Monday, June 15, 2026, marked the 137th anniversary of the death of Romanian national poet Mihai Eminescu (1850–1889). To mark the occasion, high-ranking diplomats and cultural representatives from Romania and the Republic of Moldova gathered in the Austrian capital for a joint wreath-laying ceremony. The commemoration took place in front of the Romanian Orthodox parish church in Vienna’s Simmering district (Simmeringer Hauptstraße), where the poet’s bronze bust—a symbolic site for the Romanian-speaking community—was festively decorated.
