Public expenses are on the rise. At the same time, the tax intake shrinks. Economist Felderer warns of expensive election gifts.

In the first five months of 2012, Austrian public expenses came at € 31.2bn. In the reference period of 2011, expenses totalled € 29.25bn. Thus, public expenses soared by 6.6%. In 2011, public expenses only grew by 1.0%.
