Prime Minister Robert Fico has received a heavy defeat. For the first time in Slovakia´s history, an independent candidate becomes President.

This weekend, Slovakia has held the second election round. With a voter turnout of 50.5%, the interest in the presidential election campaign was relatively low. In the last few years, there was a clear trend of political frustration in Slovakia. In the first round, the voter turnout only came at 43%.
