The Commission of the European Union emphasizes that Nabucco is still an option. Nevertheless, there would be cheaper options.

Philip Lowe, director general of the Energy Department of the EU Commission, reaffirms that the Nabucco consortium still participates in the bidding process. However, the project competes with other cheaper projects. In the past, the EU Commission supported the Nabucco project in order to become more independent from Russian natural gas.
