Especially high-skilled Hungarians tend to emigrate. The labor market conditions in Hungary are often precarious.

For high-skilled and young Hungarians, Germany is the top destination. Between 1996 and 2006, about 17,000 Hungarians came to Germany on average. However, the number of Hungarian emigrants rose steadily since 2007. In the first half year of 2012, the number of Hungarians going to Germany was up by 46%.
