The Kapsch Group reports a solid fiscal year (April 1, 2012 – March 31, 2013) with revenue of EUR 928 million, the second highest figure in the company’s history. In comparison to the previous year (EUR 984.1 million in the 2011/12 fiscal year), this is a slight decline of 6%. “Despite the volatility in the project segment and the weak economy, Kapsch has been able to maintain its position on the global market and keep the Group’s revenue at a high level,” stated Franz Semmernegg, CFO of the Kapsch Group. Kapsch TrafficCom, an exchange-listed subsidiary, generated 53% of the total revenue, Kapsch CarrierCom 20%, and Kapsch BusinessCom 32%.

Revenue again rose in the Austrian domestic market (which accounted for 29% of the total revenue) as well as on the American market (17%). By contributing 37%, Central and Eastern Europe continue to generate the largest percentage of revenue. EBITDA was at EUR 58.4 million and EBIT at EUR 25.5 million. At the same time, the number of employees rose by 9% to 5,266, the highest figure since the company was established in 1892. Expenditure for research and development has been increased by 14% to EUR 96.6 million. “We are continuing to implement our long-term growth strategy,” Semmernegg said emphatically. “We have therefore established new business units, stepped up our research and development activities, and invested in our employees.”

Strong market position thanks to innovative ITS solutions

Kapsch TrafficCom continued to bolster its position on international markets by providing innovative solutions in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) sector. Although, after four years of dynamic growth, revenue declined somewhat to EUR 488.9 million from the previous year’s figure of EUR 549.9 million. However, the company secured numerous new projects that will ensure growth in the long term.

Global market leader for digital railway radio

Kapsch CarrierCom solidified its position as the global market leader for digital railway radio (GSM-R). In the 2012/13 fiscal year, several renowned railway companies decided in favor of a GSM-R system developed by Kapsch. The 14% drop in revenue to EUR 189.1 million at Kapsch CarrierCom relates to the public grid operator segment and is primarily due to the expected expiration of maintenance agreements from the Nortel takeover.

Growth rates higher than industry average

In the Enterprise segment, Kapsch BusinessCom has seen extremely satisfactory growth rates. The company has continued to expand its position as a service partner in Austria and in the CEE region, increasing its revenue by +18% or EUR 45.6 million to EUR 297.2 million, putting its growth significantly above the region’s industry average. Due to its partnership with Apple, Kapsch BusinessCom is a sought-after partner for the integration of mobile terminal devices in corporate networks.

Kapsch is one of the most successful technology companies in Austria, with global importance in the future markets of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Railway and Public Operator Telecommunications as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The three core companies Kapsch TrafficCom, Kapsch CarrierCom and Kapsch BusinessCom belong to the Kapsch Group.
