Hungary: Further Decline in Volume of Sales in Retail Trade

The volume of retail sales decreased by 2.1% in December and by 1.9% in the whole year compared with the previous period.

Sales fell in food, drinks and tobacco stores, petrol stations, furniture and electrical goods shops as well as in books, computer equipment and other specialized stores, which played a determining role in the volume decrease of 2.1% in retail sales in December. At the same time, sales volumes continued to dynamically increase in mail order and internet retailing.
