The numbers of COVID-19 infected persons in Austria are increasing as it can be seen in whole Europe. Within the last 24 hours the Health Ministry registered 295 new cases.

The current amount of active infected persons in Austria comes up to 2,230 people.

The highest share has Vienna (1,042) followed by Upper Austria (301), Tyrol (248), Lower Austria (240), Styria (121), Salzburg (115) and Carinthia (98). The states with the least infections are Vorarlberg (48) and Burgenland (17).

According to Anschober, it is important to refer to the immense testing which was done in the last 24 hours as 13,821 people were tested. In this number there is only a small share of returners from Croatia.

However, the clusters from tourists returning from Croatia occurring in the last 3 weeks are responsible for a significant amount of new infections as 190 can be traced back to them.

The age of infected people is decreasing, and more younger people are now tested positive. The last 7-days average shows a major peak in the age group of 15 to 24 year olds.

This led to significant change in the average age of people infected. Since April the average decreased by 20 years to 32.2 years.

Health Minister Anschober therefore appeals to the young people in Austria to take their responsibility serious. "While older people are significantly less affected because they are obviously more careful and protect themselves better, a small proportion of young people obviously no longer have the necessary risk awareness and believe that young people are not affected. However, this is not true: the corona virus stops at nobody and anyone can contribute to the spread of the virus even if they are infected."
