Austrian Elections 2013: Government Punished by the Voters

The two governing parties SPÖ and ÖVP have reached their worst results ever. Nevertheless, nothing will change in Austria.

Despite substantial losses for the governing social democrats and their coalition partner ÖVP, the “grand coalition” will persist.
With 26.6% of the votes, SPÖ still ranks first. In total, SPÖ lost about 2.3 percentage points. The conservative coalition partner ÖVP reached 24.0% of the votes, which is also the worst result in the party´s history.
