The economic disparities between Austrians continue to increase. 855,000 Austrians are affected of poverty.

The number of Austrian citizens affected of manifest poverty is growing rapidly. At the end of October 2012, 855,000 persons were classified as “manifest poor”. Compared to 2005, the number has more than doubled. In total, 1.3 million Austrians were at risk of poverty in 2010. Against 2008, the number was up by 160,000 persons.
