In 2014, Austria will not achieve its fiscal objectives, new Minister of Finance Michael Spindelegger admitted. Austria´s fiscal situation is observed critically. The country faces a new austerity package.

Last week, the new Austrian government was appointed by President Heinz Fischer. After two and a half months of coalition talks, the former coalition parties SPÖ and ÖVP agreed on continuing their co-operation. In essence, the cabinet remained unchanged. As a result, experts fear that the new cabinet is nothing more than “more of the same”.
