In 2011, Austria´s government has resolved to install a “debt brake”. The budget deficit should be reduced gradually. Last year, the budget deficit was higher than expected. Due to the banking package, the austerity targets could not be reached. Nevertheless, the governing parties SPÖ and ÖVP underline that the initial objective did not change.
