Wholesale prices in May 2010 - plus 4.9% compared to the previous year

The index of wholesale prices, (GHPI 2005), for the month of May 2010, registers 110.6 (provisional figure), an increase of 0.4% over that of the previous month according to calculations of Statistics Austria.

Compared with May 2009, the wholesale prices have risen by 4.9%. In April 2010 the annual rate of change rate was +4.8%.

Compared to April 2010, in particular, "Flowers and Plants (+7.3%)," Other technical chemicals (+6.6%), hides, skins and leather "(+4.8%) and" Iron and steel (+4.1%) are more expensive. Significant price reductions were registered for the wholesale prices for used and waste materials (-10.2%). Further price declines: mainly "computers and peripheral units (-1.8%) and" fertilizer and agricultural chemical products' (-1.6%, respectively).

Compared to May 2009, "scrap and waste materials (+90.7%), hides, skins and leather" (+47.2%), "artificial resins and raw plastics (+39.0%)," Iron and Steel (+34.8%), "Other petroleum products' (+31.7%), non-ferrous metals (+28.9%) and" motor gasoline (including diesel) (+17.7%) exhibit strong price increases. Significant falls were seen for "fertilizers and agrochemical products" (-30.5%), "Coffee, tea, cocoa and spices (-7.9%)," Non-alcoholic beverages (-7.6%), computers and peripheral units (-6.3%) and "sports equipment" (-5.1%).

The wholesale price index for seasonal products increased by 10.1%; while that of non seasonal goods increased by 4.8% to May of last year.
