Small Growth in Hungarian Foreign Trade

From January to August 2012, the Hungarian export value rose by 2%.

In the eighth month of the year exports increased by 2.0% and imports did not change in EUR terms compared to August 2011. The surplus rose by EUR 121 million to EUR 575 million compared to the base month.

In August 2012, according to first estimates, exports amounted to HUF 1,850 billion (EUR 6.6 billion), while the value of imports reached HUF 1,691 billion (EUR 6.0 billion). The trade balance was HUF 159 billion in the eighth month of the year, which is an improvement of HUF 35 billion compared to the same period of the previous year. The share of European Union Member States was 73% in exports and 69% in imports in August.

Over the course of January–August 2012, the value of exports was HUF 15,559 billion, while that of imports HUF 14,199 billion according to preliminary results. In euro terms the export and the import value rose by 1.1% and 1.4%, respectively. The trade balance showed a surplus of HUF 1,360 billion, which is an improvement of HUF 82 billion compared to the surplus of HUF 1,278 billion in January–August 2011.
